Just In - Medieval Helmets

The oldest known use of helmets was by Assyrian soldiers in 900BC who wore thick leather or bronze helmets to protect the head from blunt objects, flying arrows and sword blows during combat.
The word derives from 'helm', a Medieval word for 'combat protective head gear'. The Medieval helm covered the whole head and was often accompanied by chain mail to protect the throat and neck.

Helmets have developed over the course of history and most early styles had military uses although some were used for ceremonial purposes too. The most important styles were the Corinthian Helmet and the Roman Galea. During the Middle Ages, many different military helmets and some ceremonial styles developed using different metals. In the 19th Century other materials such as leather, pith
and felt were incorporated - namely the leather pickelhaube.

Now you have the chance to own a valuable piece of history with one of our Medieval
inspired helmets. Choose from fifteen different designs including Greco-Roman,
German Pickelhaube, Crusader's, Spartan and White Knight styles...

New In - Red Deer Collection

We are excited to announce a new collection of New Zealand sourced Red Deer antlers and skulls to be stocked in our Mt Eden and Ponsonby stores.

Hailing from the headwaters of the Whanganui River under the mountains of the Central Plateau, Red Deer were introduced to the Wairarapa in the Central North Island and at various locations in the South Island to provide sport for the British aristocracy. These deer were initially sourced from the great English estates including Warnham Park, Woburn Abbey, Stoke Park and Invermark and there have been subsequent liberations out of Scotland and Germany.

The value in the antlers is based on the number of points, the length of the antler and the width between the antlers - if a wedding ring can be placed over a point it is considered a point.

The heads develop to maturity at around age 8 or 9 years, depending on genetics and nutrition. These heads can be traced genetically back to the very early liberations.

Please visit the stores for closer inspection as each piece in the range is unique:

Exclusive - Frezoli Lighting Collection

Before fluorescent lighting was introduced, many factories and warehouses were lit by heavy, hanging lights on thick chains or steel wire.

During the 80’s these buildings were converted into studios and living spaces retaining industrial characteristics like high windows, exposed support beams and concrete or wooden floors. Often the  original lights were left - lending an industrial touch. This ‘loft style’ has taken off in recent years and the Frezoli line of lighting is characterised by the burly, unpolished and industrial flavour.

Exclusive to KOKO Classics, we are very excited to bring you this range from the Netherlands.
