New In - Red Deer Collection

We are excited to announce a new collection of New Zealand sourced Red Deer antlers and skulls to be stocked in our Mt Eden and Ponsonby stores.

Hailing from the headwaters of the Whanganui River under the mountains of the Central Plateau, Red Deer were introduced to the Wairarapa in the Central North Island and at various locations in the South Island to provide sport for the British aristocracy. These deer were initially sourced from the great English estates including Warnham Park, Woburn Abbey, Stoke Park and Invermark and there have been subsequent liberations out of Scotland and Germany.

The value in the antlers is based on the number of points, the length of the antler and the width between the antlers - if a wedding ring can be placed over a point it is considered a point.

The heads develop to maturity at around age 8 or 9 years, depending on genetics and nutrition. These heads can be traced genetically back to the very early liberations.
